Zofia Hanna (1987) / mezzo-soprano
Mezzo-soprano Zofia Hanna had her first solo experience at Muziektheater Transparant with The Fairy Queen, H. Purcell. In 2005 she won second prize for singing at the renowned national concours for music and theater, Axion Classic in Brussels. That same year she started her studies at the Royal Conservatory of Flanders in Antwerp, with Stephanie Friede. Zofia is now coached by Ira Siff and Hans Pieter Herman in Amsterdam.
In 2011 and 2012 she was invited for several masterclasses in New York, Berlin and Oslo where she was coached by Patricia Mccaffrey, John Norris and John Lidal. In 2013 Zofia was one of the selected participants for the International Vocal Concours in ‘s Hertogenbosch. For this occasion she was invited as a soloist for IVC Bachcantates.
Her debut on the big stage was in 2010 at Opera Vlaanderen with the roles of Sonja and Nurse in the new work of The Rage of Life, Elena Kats-Chernin. She performed within this production in Belgium, as well as at Operadagen Rotterdam and the International Opera Festival Miscolk in Hungary. Other roles she performed are Shadow Sister in Little Women, Mark Adamo (2009), Mother in Orphelie in de bovenkamer, Axelle Kennes (2010), Anna Karenina in Dolores, Mathias Coppens and Arianna in Lamento d'Arianna, Claudio Monteverdi (2015).
This season Zofia made her debut at the Dutch National Opera, as Madrigalist in Puccini's Manon Lescaut, in collaboration with Talent development DNO and DNOA. In April 2016 Zofia Hanna was invited to perform a songrecital at Muziekgebouw aan’t IJ together with pianist Mathias Coppens.
