Peter van der Waal / Lectures & Master Research
Peter van der Waal studied Musicology at Utrecht University, specializing in Nineteenth Century singing teachers and their pupils in the tradition of the old Italian schooling. The art of many of these singers has been preserved on recordings dating from the early years of the last century. Peter started collecting historical vocal records at a very early age and his collection expanded to become one of the most significant collections of its kind in the Netherlands. His Master thesis he wrote about the Dutch singing teacher Cornélie van Zanten and her pupils. For many years he worked as a programme maker for Dutch classical radio and worked amongst others for De Nederlandse Reisopera. Peter is a prolific writer and a sought after lecturer both in the Netherlands and abroad about singers and the art of singing. At the Conservatory of Amsterdam Peter teaches Historical development of singing and for DNOA he coordinates the Master research.
